In cases where your pet may require more than one medication, we can work with the veterinarian to combine more than one drug into a single dose, making it easier and more convenient for the owner to administer it to their pet.Are you having a hard time finding medications? Occasionally commercial medications will become unavailable however the need for that medication is still present. When this happens we can work with the veterinarian to compound discontinued formulations in an individualized dosage form to suit the needs of your pet.
Some animal medicines are available in only one tablet size making it difficult for some animals to swallow. We can compound a dosage form that is just right for your pet. We can compound the medication into the smaller increments needed for small sized pets or concentrate a medication for larger animals.
One of the most popular dosage forms that we have been compounding for our animal patients are the transdermal topical medications that are applied to the non-hairy (interior) of the animal's ear. We have had a very positive response to this dosage form. Instead of trying to give an animal a tablet that it won't swallow or a liquid that it spits out, the medication is delivered through the skin with excellent absorption. This makes it much easier for the owner to administer the medication to their pet and also lets them know exactly how much medication was absorbed. Other examples of dosage forms that we can compound are:
*A compounded medication requires a written prescription from a licensed veterinarian. Specialty Pharmacy does not compound or dispense any medications for use in food animals.
